‘Bohemian’ B’s Beat
This is me
At the end of a particular work day this
week, I was going through the mundane task of marking off the tasks completed
for the day, according to the daily planning I jot down for myself to
remember. If I don’t write everything
down, it floats up into the abyss, like a string of helium filled balloons,
unlikely to be seen again, until maybe three (or so) days later when I will suddenly
wake up in the early morning hours with the remembrance of the ‘forgotten’ task
crash-landing in dreams.
Those who know me will be able to
confirm what I am about to confess to you right now. My mind wonders......a lot. I suppose this
could be due to a number of (always colourful) reasons.
I have been labelled may things since my
childhood days, from a dreamer to a freak. Now, I looked up the meaning of the
word freak in the Oxford dictionary and this is what I found: “informal definition: A person regarded as strange because of their
unusual appearance or behaviour, example, ‘her
books offer us the independent girl as something of a freak’ (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/freak)
Yes, that pretty
much does scream the name ‘Bronwyn’, and for the first time in my (almost) 40
years of existence, I’m ok with it. You
see, I’ve always been a dreamer, “ Get
your head out of the clouds and back to your school work”, are the words which
echo in my mind, still today, as teachers tried desperately hard to prepare me
for the ‘grown up’ world after school. However, I made a choice early in life to
never give up on my dreams, no matter what.
It would have been nice though if I could have discovered the balance
between fantasy and reality back then already, but it took the ‘school of life
and hard knocks’ (which I’m still attending by the way) to teach me that very
valuable lesson.
In saying this,
I’m trying to paint you a picture of why I reached these ultimate questions
“where do I fit in? and Who am I?”, which I have been asking myself for a
number of years, until very recently when I had an epiphany and got smacked
right between the eyes with the very obvious answer, “ I am ME” and I fit in
where ever I CHOOSE to”. I was always
looking outside myself for strength and confidence and a sense of belonging.
But these are things which must be discovered within one self, I found it in me,
it had been there all the time.
I also
discovered that people will only treat you the way you allow yourself to be
treated, and therefore, I do not regard the term ‘FREAK’ as negative anymore, although
I choose to labelled (if I must be labelled) “Bo-he-mi-an”, which has a
beautiful description which sums up at least one of my colourful personalities
(more on that later!) with an element of accuracy, which can only mean I DO
fall into some form of a category.
The definition of the word Bohemian (which is
a noun if you wanted to know) is ‘a person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of
regard for conventional rules and practices’
and, ‘one who lives a wondering or vagabond life......as the life of a
Gypsy.’ So
please, from now on forward, should you meet me anywhere and feel the need to
label me or place me in a certain category, or should you ever feel the need to
discuss me with your peers (which I don’t mind at all by the way), you can now
also refer to me as ‘That ‘Bohemian Bronwyn’ (catchy isn’t it?)
I apologise,
sometimes I take what seems like a life time to some to get to the point, and
my point is, I am comfortable being me. I am comfortable in my skin. I know the
Bohemian Bronwyn and finally after a life time of self ridicule and fear of the
term ‘misfit’, I finally ‘fit in’, because I chose self acceptance above
societies labels. You should try it sometime as it is defiantly something which
could be sold as a money back guarantee were it a product. The only catch is,
only YOU can find it and implement it, because it lies within YOU.
Hi, I am
Bronwyn, pleased to meet you. Be sure to
watch this space as I will be sharing (some) of my thoughts with you, some
mundane thoughts and sometimes topics which may intrigue you. Catch you next time!
Glitter
greetings (and all things shiny)
Bohemian B
